A story of integrity and resistance
A Matter of Conscience is back with a new episode featuring the first-person narration of veteran Alan Klein.

Hi friend,
We’re back with a special bonus episode about Alan Klein! This is part of our new series featuring first-person stories of the veterans we interviewed some 35 years ago.
For so many in the military — despite their feelings about the war — once they were drafted or enlisted they just wanted to play it safe.
However, many soldiers like Alan chose integrity, not cowardice.
Alan tells the story of his difficulties in college, which led to him joining the military. After he enlisted, Alan met a soldier so disfigured that he began questioning whether the war was right.
While on his isolated base in Indiana, he rebelled in any way he could, even using his Orthodox Jewish upbringing to cause problems, and he ran a scam that got other soldiers to go AWOL and disrupt the military.
Ultimately, Alan decided that his future would not be different until he made a different choice. Together we can all follow his lead and stand up for what is right.
Please listen and subscribe to our show on Apple, Spotify, or our website. We appreciate the time you dedicate to hearing our stories.
In Solidarity,
Willa Seidenberg and Bill Short
PS: "GI" is slang referring to soldiers as “Government Issued” equipment.
