A Matter of Conscience: GI Resistance During the Vietnam War - EPISODE 6: NINE FOR PEACE (premieres TODAY)

Hi friend,
In July 1968, the country was at a crossroads: war or peace.
Nine young GIs made their choice. They chose not to fight in an unjust war.
Jack Robinson, Oliver Hirsch, Dale Herrin, Paul Howard, Chuck Jones, George Dounis, Keith Mather, James Seymour, and Steve “Sunny” Anderson: These soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen staged a non-violent direct action to protest the war in Vietnam. In this latest episode of AMOC, we tell their story.
They announced their resignation from the military by chaining themselves to a group of Bay Area ministers for 48-hours to symbolize their resignation from the service and their resistance to war. For protesting, they were handcuffed and taken to military jails.
“ They hoped that [by] protesting with their lives, they might touch and awaken the minds and consciences of the American people.” GI protests swept the country in 1968, helping shift the tide of popular opinion against the Vietnam War.
Today you can listen to Episode 6: Nine For Peace. Featuring interviews with two of the nine: Keith Mather & Oliver Hirsch. You’ll also hear about two other collective actions by GIs against the war: the Fort Hood 3 and the Fort Hood 43.
Normally we release episodes every two weeks (with occasional bonus episodes upcoming) and this one took slightly longer. Thanks for your patience. We appreciate the time you dedicate to hearing our stories.
